Sean Mc Phillips | cloneskid@msn.com |I’m almost certain my mam (Kathleen Mc Phillips) went to this school as a young girl growing up in Butlersbridge. She often pointed it out to me whenever I was back home and we were in the area. She told some great stories of her schooldays, her teacher, fellow students and the craic at the time. All the names I’ve read here my mam has mentioned one time or another.

Caroline Hill | caroline.hill2@virgin.net |It was wonderful to see the information on Coolboyogue N.S., as this was where my mother went to school. She died in 1994.
I watched the film of the last day of the school and Kathleen Leddy was mentioned. My mother always used to talk about this lady.
Thank you for this insight into her early life.

Marianne McPhillips | marianne.mcaleer@btinternet.com |The Jimmy McPhillips mentioned above, who was taken away by the Black and Tans on 8th December 1920, was my grandfather. His four sons - Paddy, Jim (my father), Sean and Eddy - are pictured in an old school photograph elsewhere in this site. This is the first time I have been able to find out the dates of his internment and if anyone else can find out anything about him I should be really grateful, as he died at the age of 29, long before I was born.
What a fantastic website!

Marie Faherty | mariefaherty@eircom.net |Well done P.J on a very interesting history (was in your class at school in Coolboyogue).Brings back a lot of memories reading about the railway. I lived in the railway house at Coolboyogue from 1958 to 1966 when my parents sold it to the McPhillips. I remember my parents locking the gates at night and occasionally having to get up during the night to let the odd car through. If there was a train bringing back football supporters from a match in Dublin, my mother would take us out of the house as we once had a stone thrown through our window - football hooligans even then! Anyway great reading about the old days.

Marianne McAleer (McPhillips) | butlersbridge@gmail.com |cavan.to/butlersbridge/Coolboyogue1931names.jpg |Hello again! We’re just back from Ireland, actually - where I won third place in the lilting at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Tullamore! It would have been great to spend some time in Butlersbridge and maybe do some hunting for family history but it might not have been fair on the rest of the family. Pity.
Anyway, I am thrilled to see the school photo including my dad, Jim McPhillips, and his three brothers. I shed a few tears over it, as I don’t remember ever seeing it before. And what a brilliant photo of the whole group! It really is fantastic to find something like that after all this time. I have it as a screen-saver now and shall turn it into a photo some way or other. Thank you so much for sending it on to me.
I wish I had more time to peruse the website, but fighting off my two large teenagers from the computer is only one of the hurdles I have to cross to get into this seat. I am so glad I found it, though. Thank you so much for setting it up.
And if any further photos or information - particularly about the Gilbert and Sullivan productions at St Patrick’s College in the 30’s (I think) - should come to light, I would be delighted.
And any information on the life of my grandfather, Jim/James McPhillips, would be invaluable to me.
Thanks again,
Marianne McAleer (McPhillips)
p.s. My favourite CD at the moment is Kathleen Duffy’s collection of songs!!!
(I owe her a letter!)
